Souterrain
A souterrain is an underground chamber which may have served as a place of safe storage for foodstuffs and valuables, or as a hiding place in times of danger and is often found close to a ringfort.
During the 6th century the souterrain under the 17th tee box was undoubtedly used by some of the inhabitants of the numerous ringforts in the area.

Pro Tips
The tee box is superbly elevated on this hole, and from there, the entirety of the course can be seen.
Recently remodeled and lengthened by Pat Ruddy, the hole doglegs right to left , so the drive should play slightly right, but beware the fairway bunker and too far right leaves a very long second shot. The bravest and longest can give it their best here with the prevailing wind helping. The second shot must carry over three approach bunkers that protect the narrow entrance to the green. Allow for 2 good putts to attain your par.
